7 Destinations for a Fall Getaway

The end of summer means the end of the travel season for most people.  The return to school, fewer hours of sunlight, and cooler days, usually signal people to put away their swimwear and dust off those UGG Boots.

But if you're not ready to say bye-bye to warm breezes, sunkissed skin, and blue water, take a look at this list of places where summer never ends.

7 Caribbean Islands to visit if you're craving a few more summer days.

  1. Barbados

Barbados has over 70 miles of beaches, rich history, lush gardens, and extraordinary wildlife.  Some of their beaches are considered the best the Caribbean has to offer. The western side is full of white sand beaches and stunning turquoise waters so clear that you can see the bottom.  And the eastern side is where you can find massive waves rolling on large rocks while the mist and foam mix to paint a gorgeous landscape. Barbados' best beaches include Gibbes Beach, Paynes Bay Beach, and Mullins Beach.  These beaches are on the Platinum Coast, where you stay at one of the many luxurious villas and hotels.

And let's not forget that Barbados is the birthplace of rum.  The finest beaches and the best cocktails, what more could you ask for?

  1. Antigua

Like Barbados, Antigua has white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters and is considered a tropical paradise.  Antigua is home to 365 beaches that practically beg its visitors to relax and swim with its low humidity and remarkable seascapes.  And whether you prefer to lounge, snorkel, or explore the island's history, there's no shortage of activities to try in Antigua.

  1. Barbuda

Not to be confused with Barbados, Barbuda is Antigua's twin island.  Barbuda has a large lagoon, white and pink beaches, low humidity, and stunning waters, surrounded by beautiful reefs.  Barbuda also has a one-of-a-kind bird sanctuary home to over 200 bird species, many of which are bright and colorful like the surrounding scenery.

  1. Andros

Andros is the largest island in the Bahamas.  But you’ve probably never heard of it.  It is the untouched hidden gem of the Bahamas, as most travelers opt for Nassau or Freeport.  Andros has year-round warm weather and dreamy beaches like the other Caribbean islands.  And while the magical beaches are a huge reason to visit Andros, it's also a haven for adventure seekers and those who love the outdoors.  Deep sea fishing, scuba diving, and snorkeling are all possible during this getaway.

And to top it off, Andros has a storied and rich culture.  It is home to a village of people the world didn't know existed until the 1930s.  In the early 1800s, a group of Seminoles traveled to Andros to escape slavery in America.  And to this day, the villagers actively decide to live a simple life without the modern luxuries most travelers are accustomed to.

5.  Turks & Caicos

With a tropical climate and year-round sunshine, Turks and Caicos is the perfect place for an autumn getaway.

Your itinerary should start with a visit to Blue Hills Beach, where you can spend some time snorkeling.  And don't forget to try your hand at jet skiing or parasailing (depending on how brave you're feeling!).

  1. Jamaica

Jamaica is a tropical island with beautiful beaches, great rum and music, and vibrant nightlife.  From gorgeous ruins like Dunn's River Falls to food dishes like jerk chicken and saltfish fritters, Jamaica is an excellent option if you're looking for an escape from gray skies and cooler weather.

  1. Anguilla

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.  It's only 15 miles long and 13 miles wide, but its beaches are some of the best in the world.  Anguilla has about 15,000 residents and attracts honeymooners and other vacationers from all over.

The island’s best-known attraction is Meads Bay beach, which was named one of the best beaches in the world by TripAdvisor users.

Which Island is Right for You?

So, if you grow wary of darker days and pumpkin-flavored everything, know that a Caribbean Island and endless summer are just a short plane ride away.
